Employee Assistance Programme and National GP Directory for NCHDs

The HSE Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is a work-based support service for staff and the organisation. This is a confidential independent service. It supports employees with psychosocial issues (psychological and social factors that influence mental health). These issues may be personal or work related, affecting your job performance or home life.

Employee Assistance Programme

The service is free and available to all HSE employees.

You do not need to contact HR or your line manager to use the service. You can phone or email the EAP contact for your area to arrange a consultation with a counsellor. This is known as self-referral.

Your manager can make a referral for you, with your agreement, if they have concerns for your wellbeing.

National GP Directory for NCHDs, Trainees and Interns,

The National Doctor Training and Planning (NDTP) Lead Non – Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHD) Programme, in partnership with the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP), have introduced a programme called “A GP for every NCHD.”

The National GP Directory, lists GPs who have indicated that they have capacity to register NCHDs, trainees and interns seeking a GP within their locality during their clinical rotations.

  • Self-care is important for all doctors
  • Self-treatment is not compatible with good self-care
  • Accessing GP care in a timely manner supports good health outcomes

The GP Directory is updated periodically, making registration as a patient easier, considering the rotational nature of training for doctors.
